Membership and Licencing


If you are a first-time visitor to Mount Gambier Pistol Club, we welcome you to our club rooms and shooting range. A club member will ask to see some form of identification and arrange for you to complete a VISITOR RECORD SHEET and sign the ATTENDANCE REGISTER before showing you around our facilities and introducing you to other club members.

On your second visit:
  • Sign the ATTENDANCE REGISTER and complete a VISITOR RECORD SHEET.
  • Complete a CLUB MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION and provide contact details of two referees who have known you for more than the last two years.
  • Complete an APPLICATION FOR A FIREARMS LICENCE (PD303), or APPLICATION FOR VARIATION OF LICENCE (PD307) and take it to a local Police Station. Provide 100 points of identification.
  • Under Regulation 74(1)(b)(ii) of the Firearms Regulations 2017, you are required to provide a National Police Check that was issued in the preceding 12 months. You can obtain one by completing a NATIONAL POLICE CHECK APPLICATION (PD267) and take it to a local Police Station. Provide 100 points of identification and pay appropriate fee.   • If you have a current Class A or B Firearms Licence you may be invited to shoot a pistol under supervision.
On subsequent visits:
  • Sign the ATTENDANCE REGISTER and complete a VISITOR RECORD SHEET.
  • If you have a current Class A or B Firearms Licence you may be invited to shoot a match under supervision.
Once you have received your Confirmation/Approval Letter from SAPOL:
  • Deliver this letter to the club Secretary and pay the South Australia Revolver and Pistol Association (SARPA) fee for a Firearms and Safety Awareness Training (FASAT) pack. (fee schedule below)
  • A FASAT Instructor will be assigned to you to begin the FASAT pack.
  • On the completion of training, written and practical tests are undertaken.
Having passed the tests:
  • The Management Committee will now process your Club Membership application
  • Your results are forwarded to SAPOL and a temporary FIREARMS LICENCE is mailed to you. Take this to a local Registration and Licensing Office, pay the appropriate fee, and have your photo taken. Your plastic Firearms Licence will be mailed to you.
  • Provide the club Secretary with your Firearms Licence number and expiry date.
Having been accepted as a member:
  • Pay the appropriate club membership fee. (fee schedule below)
  • Complete the SARPA APPLICATION FOR CAPITATION form and pay the appropriate fee. This is essential and is required for your insurance cover. (fee schedule below)
Ongoing member obligations:

Every member MUST sign the ATTENDANCE REGISTER on every attendance
Every member, during the 12 months immediatley prior to their Firearms Licence expiry date, must compete in Club approved/programmed competitions and have their score recorded in the score book.

A member who
  • Does not own a handgun - must compete in atleast 6 programmed compeitions
  • Owns 1 handgun - must compete in atleast 6 programmed compeitions in that category of firearm
  • Owns more than 1 category of handgun - must compete in atleast 4 programmed competitions in each category of firearm owned
  • Owns a rifle - must be an active member of a Firearms Club
